The hours the Drill Sergeant spends on the drill field have one goal; to develop in the soldier an instinct for precision, an ingrained habit of obedience to command, and a sense of teamwork. The Drill Sergeant instructs the soldiers in squad, platoon, and company drill; the manual of arms, and the school of a soldier without arms. Because of the hard work and dedication of the Drill sergeant, the soldier acquires habits which are the basis of all else they will learn in the Army: discipline, alertness, and a trigger-quick response. |
